In researching home based business opportunities, you might have run across the terms “affiliate marketing” and “network marketing.” You can work from home in either type of business, but it is a good idea to learn what each one is before you commit to the program. While similar, there are some differences.
1. You usually sell different types of products in affiliate marketing than in network marketing. In the former, you would likely sell products that only have to be bought once. A product like this could be anything from an ebook to a condo timeshare. The customer buys it from your company and then you will probably not sell to her again. In network marketing, the focus is on making a lasting relationship so that you can sell an ongoing supply of products, usually physical rather than digital.
2. The Internet use may be different. Network marketing has come to rely heavily on Internet communication, sales, and advertising. If you do network marketing, you will probably like to use all of these tools, although they are usually not required. On the other hand, affiliate marketing is usually done exclusively through the Internet. People find out about it, purchase it, and receive it through the Internet.
3. Advertising, then, is through the Internet with affiliate marketing. With network marketing, print ads, flyers, and radio commercials are also used quite often by the individual entrepreneur to promote her business.
4. As far as work required, they are both businesses that need attention. That is not to say that you have to spend every waking moment on your affiliate marketing or network marketing business. However, you will need to set aside time routinely to watch over your business and take care of any tasks that come up.
5. The structure may be different for affiliate marketing and network marketing. Affiliate marketing usually has five or fewer levels. There may be only two levels that affect your business and income, for example. Network marketing is usually done on a broader basis with many levels of your network having a bearing on how well you do.
6. Both affiliate marketing and network marketing have good potential for income, but they may be paid in different ways. In affiliate marketing, the sale is usually made, and then that transaction is over. The customer goes in the serviced file and you go on to the next customer. You will probably be paid for the sale, and you might also be paid for extras such as clicks on the website, for example. With network marketing, you are paid when someone purchases a product. You are also paid when someone in your down line sells a product. The residual income can hold you over for years after you retire. When choosing a work from home business, make sure you are happy with the business of affiliate or network marketing.
It seems that network marketing is here to stay, and the news could not be better for you. While there was a time when network marketing was scoffed at or belittled, it is now considered a legitimate business. If you have been affected by these pessimists in the past, here are 6 tips on how to hold your head high.
1. Find out who endorses network marketing. You might be surprised to learn that some very famous, influential, and, yes, wealthy people outside of the business have very positive things to say about network marketing. Donald Trump has said, for example, that network marketing is good business because of the education it provides to the down line.
2. Follow a code of ethics. If you hold yourself to a high standard, it will be easy to take pride in your business. When you do something in your network marketing business, think about whether you would really be proud of what you are doing. If you would not, chances are it is not a good business ploy anyway.
3. Treat your customers well. When you take the time to be gracious to your customers, it pays in dividends of increased sales and a bigger network marketing downline. At the same time, though, if you make it a point to take interest in your customer’s well-being, you can be proud that you are a kind and generous person.
4. Learn about the examples of success in your upline. Whether your immediate mentor is wealthy or not, there are most surely people in your upline who are. Take every opportunity to meet these people. They will convey a positive attitude that will make you happy that you are involved in network marketing.
5. Take pride in your network marketing down line as they learn from your guidance. As you build your down line, you will be training the people under you to do their best work and tap into their internal winner. When these people prosper, pat yourself on the back and enjoy the moment. You have made their lives better.
6. Treasure your successes. Whenever you have network marketing successes, do not let them pass by unnoticed. Get as much mileage as you can out of every achievement you have accomplished. Treat yourself in some way to commemorate your milestones.
Network marketing can be difficult at times, but there are rewards. One of them is the pride you feel when you know you have made lives better. Whether that life is yours, your customer’s, or one of your associate’s, it does not matter. You have made a positive impression on the world.

Let me give you some scary statistics right here in the beginning. You may have heard this before, but it is vital that you know this. The failure rate for the Network Marketing industry is 97%. That means that only 3% of Network Marketers are successful. This is the reality.
So why is it that only 3% of Network Marketers are making any money in this industry? Is it because they are smarter than you? Or is it because they have the magic code to make money? Well the answer is NO!!

So why does one person have massive success in Social Media Marketing, and the other person has no success at all in this area. There are (3) crucial elements that you need to have in order to be a successful Network Marketer. Your potential customers or prospects have to (1) KNOW, (2) LIKE, and (3) TRUST YOU. You must build relationships with your customers or prospects. How many times have you done business with someone because one of your friends suggested it. For example, you go see Larry down at the Honda dealership. This has happened to me many times. You went there to do business with Larry because you already trusted him.
I recently had a friend tell me that the Network Marketing industry is like trying to open a combination lock. You keep spinning the lock trying to open it, but the lock won’t open. After several attempts, you get frustrated and throw the lock down. This is a lot like what Network Marketers go through when they feel like nothing is working for them. You feel like giving up or quitting, but DON”T.
After a few days of pondering your next move, you start to get to work. You start studying different Marketing methods, watching training videos, reading articles, joining Marketing forums, doing google searches………..
Now you have a better understanding of how the Network Marketing industry works. You are starting to feel CONFIDENT about the things you have learned. You BELIEVE in yourself. The lock is sitting there next to your computer. You pick up that lock with renewed energy and confidence, and start spinning that dial. First you spin to the right, than to the left, and finally back to the right! Your heart is pounding like like you have never felt before, and sweat is starting to drip from your forehead. You then take a deep breath and pull on the lock. An amazing thing happens at that moment, THE LOCK OPENS.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have all the luck? Have you tried to do something and it just didn’t turn out the same way? Are there times when you have thought to yourself, “I’m just not that lucky, or smart? I could never be as successful as them?” When you think those thoughts you are actually self-sabotaging yourself. One of the first things you need to do is to change your perception.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Making money is NOT just for the Lucky or the Rich. Everyone deserves to make money. Money doesn’t care who has it, it is there for the taking. Now you need to ask yourself this question, “Is Your Thinking Making You Rich or Poor?” Depending on how you answer and perceive different questions can drastically impact your level of success.
Afraid that living in a small town or not knowing a lot of people will keep you from being successful in your business? Don’t be. I currently live in a very small town in Western, NY and the unemployment rate is very high. But I was determined to not let that slow me down or stop me from achieving the kind of success I deserve. The first thing I thought to myself was, ok I don’t know a lot of people here that have the interest or the money to begin their own business, so how do I meet new people to join my business?
For me the obvious answer was to turn to the internet. I definitely did not want to be handing out flyers in the grocery store parking lot or hounding my old friends and family anymore. The biggest benefit to growing a business online is there are millions of people on the internet looking to start a business and all I had to do was figure out a way to find them. With Facebook and Twitter becoming so popular I decided to try to use them as a platform to meet knew people and expand my business, maybe even learn a thing or two along the way. And Boy did I.
I quickly figured out I wasn’t the only one to come up with this brilliant idea, and saw nothing but person after person trying to push their business opportunity on to others. THIS DOESN’T WORK!!! That’s not how to get people to trust you. If you really want to grow a business you have to actually bring value to others. Ok, before I start going off on that tangent I’ll get back to the original topic of not knowing many people.
So I took this new found knowledge and went to the internet to do some research on how to actually get leads and meet more people the right way. If you’ve done any kind of research on network marketing or home based businesses then you know there are no shortages of business opportunities or “automated” systems to join. I’m the kind of person that likes to research everything before I buy so I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. After hours and hours of researching countless websites and systems I kept coming across one particular marketing system and company that seemed to have its act together. The more research I did, the more I saw that the leaders in network marketing were using the system as well.
I’ve always known that if you want to be successful in anything, look to the leaders of the industry to see what they are doing, then copy them and do what they do. I’m glad I was able to remember that mindset because it’s changed my life in more ways than one. Living in a small town doesn’t even come to mind now and it hasn’t hurt my business at all.
So for anyone that is concerned that they may not be able to start a business and grow it to the success that they’d like because they don’t know a lot of people put those fears away. As long as you have the internet and some great training the sky is the limit!

2. Video Marketing-This is becoming one of the most popular and the great thing it is free as well marketing tools in online marketing today. Create an account on You Tube, You can purchase a Web Cam or small video camera that are relatively inexpensive and begin recording videos. You can then post them on your blog and/or Social Media Sites with links that advertise your business.
3. Another great way to advertise your business is using social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and My Space. By meeting people with similar interests you can interact with them and you can also post links to your profile.
4. Free Classified Sites-this is another way to advertise your opportunity. The key to doing this is to be consistent and do it on a regular basis.
5. Banner Exchanges-another way to advertise your business is through Banner Exchanges with other websites. You can do a google search to find some of the more popular sites to exchange with. Another idea is to search for blogs that are complimentary to yours and see if someone is willing to exchange with you.
There are numerous other ways to advertise your business on a budget, but these are the top five that came to mind. The biggest key is that no matter what type of advertising you opt to do, make sure to do it consistently.

I practice a concept called Attraction Marketing which essentially teaches you how to draw people to you based on your value to the marketplace. By mastering the art of Attraction, you become a magnet that people want to attach themselves to.
Now Attraction Marketing has nothing to do with your outward looks, but it does accentuate the importance of being seen as “attractive.” If you’re an “ugly” person, meaning there is no perceived value that you bring to the table in the form of expertise or the ability to solve problems, you will be at the mercy of someone who is.
Attractiveness is something that many people want to harness because the benefits are apparent in any circle. When you are attractive, people want to be around you; they secretly want to be like you or have a piece of you. When someone who is less attractive befriends someone who is attractive, they automatically become more attractive by association.
Before I understood the concept of Attraction Marketing, my whole world was centered around trying to hunt after leads for my business. Many people are just getting started in Network Marketing and they probably don’t even know where to start. Most of the time, they are told by their upline to write a list of their friends and family, contact the people closest to you and then get them on the phone with your sponsor to sign them up. In the game of chess, there are several principles that apply to what it takes to achieve explosive success in any business, and here they are:
- Begin with the end in mind: You can’t launch out into business without first knowing exactly what you want the end result to be. You must see the end as you want it, and then work backwards from there with your planning. Once you have this in place, you can now make your first move.

Be aware of market trends, shifts in consumer behaviors, and any innovations in the marketplace and start utilizing this information BEFORE your competition does. If you see it coming, respond quickly and with deadly precision.
- Document every move: Great chess players write down every move they make as they are making them so that they can review their moves later. This is necessary to identify which moves were good and which ones were bad. By knowing where you made mistakes, you can correct them when presented with the same position in the future.
- Develop several strategies for attack: In your marketing efforts, it is important to construct multiple strategies to generate leads. Don’t rely on just one approach even if you are very good at it; think like the US military and unleash the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard onto the marketplace with your marketing. You want to make MASSIVE impact.
- Protect your King at all cost: Make sure that you have all the proper insurance and reserves in place to guard yourself from suffering loss. Don’t open yourself up to “attacks” by leaving your business vulnerable.
- Be willing to make sacrifices: Sometimes you have to let go of valuable pieces in order to improve your position. So, don’t be afraid to make calculated risks or even give up something of value in order to get closer to the goal. Remember step #1: You’re playing the game to win so always keep that in the forefront of your mind.
- Learn from your mistakes: You will lose sometimes, and that’s ok. You must be dedicated to your education to master your craft. Commit to studying the areas where you are weak so that you can avoid unnecessary losses.
You can win the game when you master the fundamentals. All the great chess masters are respected not for their flash or spectacular moves, but for the small moves that keep them winning. Think of your business as a game that you want to master and it will be both fun and profitable in the end.
